Gardening and officialdom
As fans will know, when a team member transfers to a rival team, he or she is required to respect a period of inactivity – called gardening leave – designed to limit short-term knowledge transfer.
On Monday 13 May, Ferrari has made official the arrival of Loic Serra and Jerome d’Ambrosio from Mercedes, in the roles of Head of Chassis Performance Engineering and Deputy Team Principal and Head of the Ferrari Driver Academy respectively. Both will start work on October 1st.
The Frenchman and the Belgian were two known signings for some time now – the first from July 2023 and the second from March 2024 -, a sign that it is not uncommon for months to pass between the closing of the negotiations and the formalization of the agreements.
And Newey?
In this scenario it is reasonable not to have particular expectations of announcements by return post regarding Adrian Newey, who will work with Red Bull until the beginning of 2025 for all activities related to the launch of the RB17 hypercar. As revealed by FormulaPassion.it in the past few weeks, the path towards Ferrari has been traced – unless there are sensational last minute surprises. And there are no contrary voices in this regard, with Helmut Marko having aligned himself with the predictions of a red-clad Newey.
It is then enough to read the main Italian and foreign sources of information to find confirmation of the absolute pole position of the Maranello team for Newey, who obviously will not be able to officially start working for the Prancing Horse before the first three-four months of next year.
And the Germans too Cars, Motor and Sport they reiterated the concept, revealing an attempted last minute approach by Toto Wolff: “In Miami there were rumors that Mercedes had attempted a cautious rapprochement with Newey. But maybe it’s too late. The designer’s talks with Ferrari are in fact at an advanced stage.”
