The Board of Directors of the Basketball Association decided to start the matches of the new season next September 15, this came during the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Federation, which was held under the chairmanship of Major General “M” Ismail Al Gergawi, during which the calendar for the next season was discussed, in addition to approving the benefits for the first and youth teams by participating in a number of of the upcoming regional tournaments and continental qualifiers.
Salem Al-Mutawa, Secretary-General of the Federation, confirmed that it was decided that the youth team will participate in the Arab Championship in Cairo during the period from 14 to 22 next July, and then participate in the Gulf Championship on the seventh of next August, which is related to the qualifiers for the Asian Cup for this age group.
Salem Al-Mutawa said: “The participation of the men’s team in the Gulf Games in Kuwait has been approved from May 14 to 24, and then the team will go to a Serbian camp on the 25th of the same month until the 30th of it as well, provided that travel to the Qatari capital Doha on May 31 to compete Asian qualifiers in its first stage.
He added: “The discussion of the next season’s calendar and the proposed competitions was discussed, and the new season competitions will start early, specifically on September 15, and that the local championships will be the same with only a slight modification in the start of some competitions, and the Federation Cup will be the beginning of the season, followed by The General League Championship, then the Cup of His Highness the Vice President, then the final with the Cup of His Highness the President of the State.”
The Secretary-General of the Federation indicated that there will be no change in the competitions of the age groups, as is happening in the current season, as there is a great focus on holding all stage tournaments to contribute to the production of talents within our stadiums that serve the game’s march in the future.
For his part, Rashid Abdullah, director of the national teams, confirmed that the team camp under the leadership of Dr. Mounir bin Al Habib, the coach of the national teams, ends today in the Al Wasl Club hall, and that the assembly and training will return again in a closed camp after Eid Al-Fitr during the period from 5 to 13 May next.
Rashid Abdullah said: “The team includes 18 players from all the country’s clubs, as we are preparing for the Arab Games in Kuwait, as well as the Asian qualifiers scheduled for the Qatari capital, Doha, and that our team will play against Sri Lanka, Oman and Qatar in the first stage of the Asian qualifiers.”
He added: “The youth team, during the coming period, has two entitlements, the first for the Arab championship in Cairo, and the second for the Gulf qualifiers for Asia, and its qualifiers will be held in the UAE on the seventh of next August.”
