The long wait is over, the Gresini team and Marc Marquez have officially introduced themselves. In the highly anticipated event held at Cocoricò in Riccione, the Faenza team unveiled the Desmosedici GP23 which in 2024 will be entrusted to the confirmed Alex Marquez and his older brother Marc. That the eight-time world champion was now a Ducati rider was already clear from the Valencia tests, but seeing him in the Gresini colors undoubtedly has a certain effect, after eleven seasons with Honda.
Late this afternoon, Alex and Marc Marquez revealed the weapon with which they will fight in MotoGP this year (and for which the eldest of the Cervera brothers is the big favourite). Nothing changes in terms of the livery, which maintains the team's trademark blue. A few hints of red, to recall the presence of Ducati, as we saw under the saddle last year. No Red Bull, as had initially been imagined. The sponsor that brought Marc appears only on the helmet of the two riders, while the bike does not have stickers of the energy drink.
What most catches the eye is the number on the front fairing: we are talking about 93, which stands out on one of the two GP23s. Marc Marquez presents his characteristic number with the typical livery, but this year it has a bright, almost fluorescent red, to indicate the change of jersey. For one piece of news, there is also another confirmation: Alex Marquez's 73 is Gresini's point of continuity, after a learning but solid 2023.
Two victories in the Sprints and a triumph in the Sunday race. This is just part of the results that the Gresini team collected last year. In his first year as a Ducati rider, Alex Marquez “unblocked” himself by finding his first success in MotoGP in both short races signed by Gresini. The Spaniard thus began his redemption after the difficult years in Honda and now aims to confirm himself, becoming the driving force of a team increasingly ready to constantly fight for the top.
The 2023 Sunday victory came in Qatar (where Gresini had already won with Enea Bastianini two years ago) and bears the signature of Fabio Di Giannantonio. This year the Roman is not part of the Gresini team, in his place is the highly anticipated Marc Marquez, whose rumors about a possible landing in Faenza had begun to circulate in the middle of last season. Only late in October did official confirmation arrive of what turned out to be a historic change.
Marc's debut on the Ducati took place last November, during the Valencia tests. Spotlight on the #93 garage at Ricardo Tormo, where he amazed by finishing his first day with the GP23 in fourth position. Marquez immediately appeared at ease with the Ducati, with which he will continue to familiarize himself during the next tests scheduled for early February in Sepang. Meanwhile, for the season, the bets give Marc as the absolute favorite…
Not just MotoGP: the Gresini team presented, as usual, its MotoE and Moto2 project. In the all-electric category, it once again focuses on the duo formed by Matteo Ferrari and Alessio Finello. A completely renewed line up for the intermediate class, where this year Manuel Gonzalez and Albert Arenas wear the colors of the Faenza team.
