We Spaniards are increasingly poorer. A reflection of this is the effort that families have to make to make the purchase. Although during the last few months inflation has given a truce and large consumer businesses are confident that there will be price drops at the end of the year, the reality is that 56% of Spaniards acknowledge that they have problems eating a healthy diet due to the price of the shopping basket.
The communities that suffer the most from this problem are the Canary Islands, where the percentage of families that recognize it reaches 60.9%, the Basque Country (59.6%), Castilla La Mancha (59.5%) and Andalusia (59.4% ).
By age group, those who suffer the most from their desire to eat healthy and not being able to do so for economic reasons are respondents between 25 and 35 years old (62.2%). They are closely followed by Spaniards between 36 and 45 years old (59.4%), according to data from the I Carrefour Study on Healthy Eating and Consumption Habits in Spain. “88.5% affirm that they would like to improve their diet, although for 56% the price makes it difficult to achieve a healthy diet,” they acknowledge in the study.
Data that is a reflection of the complicated economic situation that Spanish families are going through in recent years.
Desire to eat a healthy diet
The difficulties in affording a healthy diet also clash with the wishes of families, since 94.4% of those surveyed in the study are concerned about leading a healthy lifestyle. Of the clients who participated in this study, only 21% consider that they have a healthy lifestyle. By age groups, those under 25, with 51.4%, and those over 76 years old, with 33.6%, are the groups that consider that they lead a healthy lifestyle and those who least, those included between 45 and 65.
By autonomous community, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community are the regions with the highest percentage of households that affirm that their daily life is completely healthy, with 24.7% and 24.2%, respectively. At the bottom of this ranking is Castilla La Mancha, with 19%, the Canary Islands, with 17.2% and Cantabria, with 16.7%.
Food stands as a priority to lead a healthy lifestyle, with 97.6%. Other influencing factors, according to those surveyed, are: getting enough sleep (96.8%), not smoking (96%), leading a healthy social life (91.6%), exercising regularly (90%) and exposing yourself daily. in the sun (72.4%).
