The Minister of Security of Argentina, Patricia Bullrich, began an official visit to El Salvador, this Sunday (16), where she visited the mega-prison built by the administration of Nayib Bukele, considered the largest penitentiary center on the American continent.
During the weekend, Bullrich was at the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) and also visited the National Public Security Academy (ANSP).
“I arrived in El Salvador and, at the National Public Security Academy, I met with its general director, César Flores Murillo. He shared with me a very complete and detailed explanation about the administration of the Police and its important results”, stated the minister on the social network X.
In the same vein, Gustavo Villatoro, Minister of Justice and Public Security of El Salvador, welcomed the representative of Javier Milei’s government. “As a result of the bilateral meeting between Nayib Bukele and Javier Milei, we welcome Minister Patrícia Bullrich to the safest country in Latin America,” he said.
Villatoro added: “It is a real pleasure to welcome you. I am sure that this visit to Argentina will be enriching. You and your team will be able to learn first-hand about the Bukele Model.”
Patricia Bullrich carries out the visit amid growing rates of violence in some Argentine cities, mainly in the Rosario region, the epicenter of drug trafficking crime in the country.
The minister’s agenda in El Salvador ends next Wednesday (19). During the week, she should meet with different Salvadoran authorities to discuss issues related to security and combating crime.
The model implemented in 2022 by Bukele caught the attention of the new management of Casa Rosada, led by Milei, due to the positive results in terms of reducing gang control in that country.
Bullrich is interested in replicating the structure created by Bukele in Argentina. The small Central American country was considered one of the most violent in the world until 2022 and, with the application of an exceptional regime and policies to combat organized crime, it went from 145 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants to 2 per 100,000, according to data officers.
During the Argentine minister’s visit to El Salvador, Milei expressed her support for security measures. “Together against criminals who murder on a mass scale and consider themselves the owners of our countries and societies,” she said on the social network X.
President Bukele also made a publication broadcasting the image of the flags of El Salvador and Argentina on his X account. “Together to fight the mafias and bring peace to our countries,” he said.
