Third consecutive weekend
The period of major travel in Asia and Oceania will end this weekend Thailand, the last stage of a tour de force that lasted three consecutive weeks. After India and Australia, the MotoGP will arrive on the track of Buriram, which returned last year after a two-season stop due to the COVID-19 emergency. A track which, in that case, saw the success of Miguel Oliveira’s KTM, the first rider to put an end to the domination of Marc Marquez in Thailand.
The good memories of Marquez
The Spaniard from Honda, in his last races with the official Japanese manufacturer before joining the Gresini team in 2024, had in fact climbed to the top step of the podium in the first two editions of the 2018 and 2019 (the year in which he won the world title), while now he returns in a moment of great difficulty for Honda in terms of competitiveness: “From Australia to Thailand, I’m not sure there will be a big temperature change on the calendar – declared the eight-time world champion – It was a complicated weekend in Australia for a number of reasons, so now let’s focus on the race ahead of us. Buriram has been a good circuit for us in the past, I won the 2019 title and we achieved a fifth place last year too. Of course, things always change in MotoGP and nothing is certain, as always we come in and see what’s possible, then we work from there“.
Mir chasing points
Hopes and desire to do well also shared by his #93 teammate, Joan Mirwho has faith in Honda’s good adaptation to this track to recover from a critical season for him: “We arrive at the last of three intense races in a row, but our focus and determination is exactly the same – commented – last weekend was complicated, but Honda has been strong here in Thailand in the past, so let’s see what is possible this weekend. Buriram is a very different track to Phillip Island, and the weather seems a little warmer too! It will therefore be important to adapt the bike quickly and well.”
