Two weeks after returning to the track at Magny-Cours, the first weekend held after the long summer break, Superbike is ready for the eighth of the twelve overall rounds of this season, scheduled for this weekend at Barcelona. For the Ducatiwhich is already experiencing a particularly peaceful period in MotoGP too – with the conquest of the constructors’ world title at Aragon – the Catalan circuit could be a further opportunity to be able to extend the standings, also here in both the constructors and riders.
In the latter ranking, Alvaro Bautista shows up for the home appointment as a leader with 30 points ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu. A gap made possible by the victory in Race-1 in France, but reduced due to the successes of the reigning champion in the Superpole Race and in Race-2, the latter characterized by the fall of the Spaniard following a controversial contact with Jonathan Rea . For Bautista, therefore, the race at home will be an opportunity for redemption: “I’m looking forward to racing in Barcelona again – commented – I am very charged because this is a track that I like, on which I have been strong in the past and where we had the opportunity to carry out two tests which gave us very positive indications. We have to work well from Friday and always stay focused to get the best result and not make mistakes. The Magny-Cours accident? After having seen the images many times, my thinking doesn’t change and besides, we can do nothing more. I’ve already said what I had to say, so now we just have to look forward ”.
Barcelona will also have a special meaning for the other Ducati home rider: Michael Ruben Rinaldi. The 26-year-old from Rimini will be on the track for the first time after the contract renewal that will tie him to the team also for next season, an agreement also favored by an excellent 2nd place obtained at Magny-Cours in Race-2: “I am very happy to have signed the extension of the contract with the Aruba.it Racing Ducati team for next season – remarked Rinaldi – I think it can be a key step in my career. I’m experiencing a positive moment, and the feeling with the bike is constantly growing. I arrive in Barcelona after having obtained the best result of the season with second place in Race-2 in France, and it is inevitable that the confidence is very highalso because this is a circuit that I really like, where I managed to get important results ”.
