The French president advances with the round of meetings with referents from other political spaces with the aim of solving the conundrum raised in the National Assembly after losing the absolute majority in the elections last Sunday. This June 22 will be the turn of the coalition allies and referents of La Francia Insumisa. Tuesday’s result was negative and officials close to the head of state warned that they will not link up with the extreme left or right.
This Wednesday, June 22, Emmanuel Macron began the second round of conclaves with leaders of the political spaces that make up the National Assembly seeking to form the majority that he lost at the polls last Sunday and that threatens the ability to govern in the next term. .
Throughout the day, Macron will meet with the environmentalist leader, Julien Bayou, and two relevant members of La France Insumisa: the president of the bloc, Mathilde Panot, and Adrien Quatennens, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s right-hand man.
In addition, he will receive his allies in the ‘Together’ coalition, such as Édouard Philippe, from the ‘Horizons’ party and former prime minister, who called on Tuesday for the configuration of a “grand coalition” to give stability to France.
So far, his proposal to make new alliances to prevail in Parliament has not had any success. Although it was an idea highlighted by the opponents, who highlighted the frankness of the talks, none gave the endorsement to advance in the formation of ties of political convenience.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the National Assembly, Marine Le Pen, said that they do not plan to be an opposition that would make “a systemic obstruction”, but did not lead to a pact. “If the measures that are presented are common sense, we will vote for them. If not, we will amend them. If they are not included in the text, we will oppose it,” she stated.

While Le Pen demanded conditions such as the presidency of the finance committee and a vice-presidency of the Assembly for her space, which expanded greatly from eight in 2017 to 89 in these elections.
The meetings with Christian Jacob -from Les Républicains-, the socialist Olivier Faure and the communist Fabien Roussel, who revealed that the president proposed “a government of national unity”, were also unsuccessful.
“It’s your turn to make proposals and we’ll see which side we take,” he added.
Jacob said that they will be a “determined but responsible” opposition and stressed that they would never enter into the formation of “a blockade”. He also had a rapprochement with a strong ally in Francois Bayrou of the centrist MoDem.
Discarded the agreements with the extreme right and left
Macronism heavyweights such as Olivier Véran and Clément Beaune, ministers of Relations with Parliament and of Europe, respectively, ruled out any alliance with the factions of Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
“There can be no alliance, not even circumstantial, with the National Group,” argued Beaune, justifying that the base of values between the two is not compatible.
“We have the desire to arrive, to work in the general interest, a project-by-project majority system, sometimes with the left, sometimes with the right,” said Véran. “We will not be in a position to depend on the voices of the National Association or La Francia Insumisa,” he stressed.
