Objective 2026
There are numerous new features in the technical regulations that will be introduced for the season 2026and the latest ongoing studies continue to become more and more in-depth for a further modification, this time relating toHalo. The driver’s head protection system, introduced in 2018 not without some doubts, but instead proving to be of fundamental importance to avoid potential dramas, has once again come to the attention of the FIA for another objective.
The challenge with the scale
With the reintroduction of ground effect in 2022, the cars have increased significantly in weight, which is why the Federation’s research team, as already indicated by the FIA Director for Single-seaters Nikolas Tombazisset to work to develop new solutions in order to “reduce weight limit by 40-50kg by 2026”.
The criteria of the new tender notice
A goal that also includes the lightening of the Halo always for that year, to the point that the FIA opened a tender notice for the design of this solution which will be used from 2026 to 2030. At present, the Halo, made of titanium, weighs 7kgand the aim highlighted by the Federation will be to reduce weight by 1 kg while maintaining the same safety standardsthat is, resisting a maximum load of 12 tons.
