Plot
The film chronicles the historic battle between car manufacturers Ford and Ferrari to win the famous sports car endurance race, known as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1963 the Ford Motor Company contacted Enzo Ferrari (Remo Girone) for a possible purchase, but the Italian soon broke off relations when he understood that Scuderia Ferrari was also included in the agreement. Enzo does not agree, his cars, after the 1958 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, win first place in every race from 1960 to 1965. But Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) does not forgive this refusal and is pregnant his team, made up of engineers and designers, to build a faster car capable of defeating the Cavallino Rosso in the ’66 race. This is where the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari begins.
At the head of the team of engineers responsible for building the prototype is the visionary Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon), winner of La Mans in 1959 and forced to abandon racing by heart disease. Reinventing himself as a designer and planner, Shelby is hired by Ford to bring to completion the challenge that he launched with himself and with Ferrari. The designer also has the right man for the new car, his test driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale), an arrogant but talented British racing driver. Together the two men battled interference from the company to create a model that would revolutionize the laws of physics and surpass Ferrari at the 1966 World Championship. Thus, from a showdown and a lust for victory, was born the Ford GT40, but at what price?
