In our review of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Alessandro Bacchetta spoke of “an adventure for novices, whether they are children or adults unaccustomed to the pad: even better, novice adults with equally inexperienced children. Visually it is not exceptional but pleasant and cohesive, the controls are precise, the story rather long and enriched by a commendable novelty, the adventure (following Kirby’s) of the wizard Magolor.”
“Even Magolandia, which features various mini-games, is much more than a simple appendix: it doesn’t rival Mario Party, but it’s a full-bodied addition, especially in multiplayer. As in every episode of Kirby, the difficulty is calibrated downwards, albeit with a discreet internal progression; the game, perhaps for simplicity, does not exploit the refinements allowed by the control system and, above all, offers a monotonous rhythm, without variations, and well-orchestrated levels, but lacking in genius.”
“Above all, despite being a more organic and complete work, it doesn’t have much more to offer – played later or not – than Kirby: Star Allies, of which, more than a predecessor or a sequel, it seems more like a parallel experience.”
