Kalimat Foundation participated in the 15th session of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, with activities full of knowledge and creativity, affirming its mission as a non-profit organization concerned with empowering disadvantaged children, refugees, and those with visual disabilities, and ensuring their right to read.
The Foundation’s pavilion at the festival witnessed a group of interactive activities and workshops within the “I see” initiative, which aims to integrate and empower blind and visually impaired children, and the “We Sew Hope for Gaza” initiative, which the Foundation recently launched to support the children of Gaza.
The Kalimat Foundation, as part of the “I See” initiative, launched a training program, entitled “With Their Voices We See,” aimed at empowering blind and visually impaired children and adolescents by developing their media skills in television presentation and public speaking. This is in partnership with the Sharjah Broadcasting and Television Authority and the Emirates Association for the Visually Impaired.
The initiative contributed to strengthening the participating children’s confidence in their abilities to be influential voices in society, highlighting their exceptional abilities in media presentation and public speaking. After passing the training program, the children had the opportunity to provide television coverage with the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority in the program “Our Children and the Book,” which confirmed their constructive role in society.
As part of the “I see” initiative, the Foundation’s pavilion hosted an interactive reading session and a workshop in cooperation with the Emirates Association for the Visually Impaired, where children with visual disabilities were able to delve into the depths of knowledge, and enjoyed reading the book “Prince of the Seas” published by the “Kalimat” group.
Following the reading session, the blind and visually impaired children participated in a workshop, the activities of which were designed to develop their skills and encourage them to create their own pieces of art, which formed a spacious space that enabled the participants to express themselves, and enriched their educational and artistic experience.
Within the framework of the “We Sew Hope for Gaza” initiative, the Kalimat Foundation showcased the new product line, the entire proceeds of which are allocated to support the children of Gaza through the UAE Red Crescent’s “Compassion for Gaza” campaign. It also held an exceptional embroidery workshop, to highlight the cultural heritage. And the Palestinian identity, and teaching the young people participating in the workshop the techniques of Palestinian embroidery.
In the context of her comment on the Foundation’s activities at the festival, Amna Al-Mazmi, Director of the Kalimat Foundation, said: “The Foundation believes in knowledge as a basic foundation for personal development, expanding the horizons of thought and enriching the imagination, as it forms the foundation on which children’s futures are built, enabling them to lead and enrich the various sectors of life with their creative ideas.” And their unique innovations that are based on conscious and diverse reading.”
