When the best-known start-ups in the tech industry achieve success, their most important backers are also happy. The big venture capital firms have made a fortune by getting involved early in start-ups like Google and Facebook. For private investors, however, the opportunities to benefit from the success stories are limited. Shares in venture capital firms are one option, but the largest and most successful of them are privately owned. Investing directly in start-ups is highly risky because of the lack of diversification. A third option is offered by funds of funds, which in turn invest in venture capitalists' funds. Former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has now brought such a fund onto the market.
In the FAS, Rosberg talks about the details for the first time: He invests his fund in a group of the best-known venture capital funds. He is aiming for a fund size of 75 million euros by the end of the year, a manageable sum in the fund world. So far he has raised 30 million euros and recently completed a first round of financing.
