The 1.4% increase in the services sector’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the fourth quarter of 2023 was the sharpest since the fourth quarter of 2020, when services advanced 3.1% in comparison with the previous quarter, reported this Tuesday, 4th, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
Another highlight of the release of GDP numbers was the growth of agriculture at the margin, an increase of 11.3%, which was the most pronounced since the first quarter of 2023.
The 0.1% drop in Industrial GDP in the first quarter of the year compared to the last three months of 2023 was the first negative rate for the national industry since the fourth quarter of 2022.
Still in this type of comparison, there was a 1.5% increase in Family Consumption, the sharpest rate since the second quarter of 2022, when there was a 2% increase.
Also drawing attention was the 6.5% increase in imports in the first quarter compared to the immediately previous period, the highest rate since the first quarter of 2021, when they grew 12%.
