House Of The Dragon is a fantasy TV series created by Ryan Condal and George RR Martin. It is the prequel to the series Game of Thrones (2011-2019) and is based on the novel Fire and Blood written by George RR Martin himself (also author of the novels belonging to the cycle A Song of Ice and Firewhich were adapted into the TV series “Game Of Thrones”).
Set almost 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones and the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, it tells of everything that caused the war within House Targaryen and what happened during it, known as “The Dance of Dragons”. So far a season of 10 episodes has been made and now the first of the 8 planned in the second has debuted (plus a third on the way). The series is available in Italy on Sky and Now TV.
The Game of Thrones emblem
The first episode of the second season picks up exactly where the previous one left off: the civil war within the House of Targaryen is becoming increasingly bitter where two factions are protagonists, the Greens led by Alicent, who support the newly proclaimed King Aegon II Targaryen, and the Blacks led by Rhaenrya Targaryen, legitimate heir to Game of Thrones.
The adversities between the factions are not only political but also personal. Rhaenyra is devastated by the pain of the loss of her son Lucerys and is unable to react, while her husband Daemon plots revenge on her. Towards the end of the episode, made up of intrigues and preparations for a now inevitable war, a shocking event occurs which further intensifies the diatribe and brings the feared Dance of the Dragons.
For better or worse, Game Of Thrones is one of those TV series that has approached a rather large audience and for years it has enthralled, entertained, thrilled, surprised, shocked and even angered many people. After two not entirely successful final seasons and with a pace that was too hasty to provide closure, they wanted relaunch the franchise created by George RR Martin.
A shocking ending
In a time when Nostalgia is in fashion, the lack of originality in some moments, the expansion and the shared universe, not even Game Of Thrones was exempt from this and the ideas and writings of Martin himself open up so many possibilities. The difference between the various cases lies in how it is done, and here it was a good opportunity to take.
The choice to focus on House Of The Dragon to tell the story of House Targaryen 200 years before Game of Thrones proved successful, bringing together both nostalgic and new fans. This new production manages to recreate the atmosphere and distinctive style of Game of Thronesbased on intrigues, betrayals, twists and scandals, without ever being predictable.

They managed to bring back the atmosphere and style that distinguished Game Of Thrones from other TV series, based on intrigue, betrayals, twists, scandals and that feeling of don’t expect the predictable from the characters. In fact, after a first season which marked a return to the origins, the second is increasingly closer to the emblem of the Mother Series.
The Dance of the Dragons is coming
The first season was a preparatory season and with a calm and well-established rhythm, it told well and in detail all the events that they caused House Targaryen to split into two factions who will face each other in a battle that is now a matter of little time and will see the light.
The second season presents itself as a worthy sequel and is taking the reins left by the first to continue doing what it was doing, that is, arriving at that event that will mark the Targaryens forever: the Dance of the Dragons.
It is an episode that on the one hand shows in detail all the consequences of what happened in the first season and this also comes as a recap of what has happened so far. On the other hand, however, there is not so much action and the focus is more on intrigues, meetings, the mourning process and the thirst for revenge, combined with that of power that can only be quenched by Game of Thrones.
Analyzes the various moods of the protagonists, between those who are in conflict with themselves and those who are determined to act. Longtime fans of Game of Thrones they will also catch some references to the mother series.
It can also be boring for those who have no patience and want real action and their own, but in reality that is what they are asking for: patience. In this episode they threw more irons into the fire, showing that the coming war is not only political but also personal. The shocking and jaw-dropping ending makes it clear that what is coming will be much bloodier than what you think and there will be more and more tensions not only between the two factions, but also within them.
