The appointment with the start of the Formula 1 2022 world championship is getting closer and closer, and with it there will be the eagerly awaited debut of the numerous technical and regulatory innovations planned for next season. A world championship that is also different from the point of view of the Race Direction, completely revised by the International Federation compared to the one that ‘refereed’ in 2021: in fact, at the head of the latter there will be Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitaswith the latter operating with the support of Herbie Blash. Three men who will replace the Australian Michael Masidismissed from this post after controversial decisions taken in the previous championship, some of these later proved decisive for the conquest of the drivers’ title.
Among all, those implemented on the occasion of the final appointment of last season obviously stand out Abu Dhabi, in a race that opened the doors to Max Verstappen for his first world seal against Lewis Hamilton. Apart from the most well-known case, there have been other episodes that have sparked controversy against Race Direction and Masi himself, accused of an interpretation of the sporting regulations that is too often inconsistent. Cases that have not gone unnoticed by another world champion like Mika Hakkinenas recognized by the Finnish himself during the interview given to F1 Talks through Viaplay. The former McLaren driver, also recalling some mistakes made at his time, however specified that there must be a limit to mistakes: “May you make a mistake once – commented – it is as possible as it is acceptable. But if you do it several times, it is no longer a mistake, and there is no question that someone has made them ”.
