The work to build the future Southwestern Green Walk begins to generate the first traffic detours. This great project to cover the A-5 includes the execution of a new traffic lighted roundabout on Avenida de los Poblados at the height of Flor del Coral street that allows vehicles traveling on said road to make a change of direction, in the direction Aluche, to access the future tunnel. The works will make it necessary to occupy some traffic lanes and sidewalks on Avenida de los Poblados and Calle de Pilar, in the Latina district. These conditions will last from this Thursday until next January 17 and will not have an impact on the public transport bus lines that run through this environment.
During the first phase of the construction of this roundabout, the Avenue of the Villagesthe exterior circulation lane in both directions, as well as the sidewalks attached to Pilar Street. On this road, the southbound traffic lane will also be closed, between Alejandro Navarro Street and Flor del Coral Street, as well as the sidewalk attached to this lane and the exit lane to Los Poblados Avenue.

For pedestrians, an itinerary will be enabled along the sidewalk of Pilar Street closest to the buildings.

The project, which will take about two years to complete, will cover 3.2 kilometers of the A-5 from Padre Piquer Avenue to Portugal Avenue, which will reduce daily traffic in the area by 90 percent. which today reaches 80,000 vehicles. The future promenade will have an approximate area of 80,000 square meters and will house nearly 7,300 new trees, with great prominence for pedestrian routes and bicycle paths. Underground, the tunnel will have a distribution of three lanes in each direction, the ones closest to the median on both roads will be designed for use as a HOV bus, including adjustable signaling depending on the traffic to optimize its use.
