Even though we are only in February, the release of one of the most anticipated video games of 2024 is approaching. In fact, this month it will be released all over the world FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTHwhich will allow us to finally find out what will happen to Cloud and the others after their escape from Midgar following the events of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE. The direction taken by SQUARE ENIX for this remake it seems really unpredictable, so it's really difficult to imagine what awaits us next February 29.
Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to get a little taste of what lies ahead. Thanks to the invitation of SQUARE ENIX I flew to London where, during the pre-launch event, I had the opportunity to preview the game in the very first hours of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH. In this article I have collected them all my impressions of what I got to tryin order to also give you readers an idea of what we will find in the first hours of this new adventure.
It's time to get on the back of the Choboco, we set off in the direction of Kalm!
It will be in Kalm that we will start the game. Right from the start we will be able to notice how the setting is really different from the dark metropolis of Midgar, with particular attention to the play of light and colours of the lively town. Here we will be able to discover some of the new mechanics that the software house has implemented REBIRTHlike the possibility of influence interpersonal relationships between team members and Cloud based on the answers we choose during the dialogues. At the moment I found it to be a nice but somewhat basic mechanic, and it's a bit difficult for me to predict how much these choices will influence the game, if not for the appointment at the Gold Saucer that we all look forward to. However, I am really curious to find out if and how this mechanic will be explored in depth as the main plot continues, given that it opens up so many narrative possibilities to get to know our supporting characters better.
An element that I particularly appreciated is the introduction of the card game Queen's Blood. Not only is it a well-structured mini-game that will require a bit of strategy to ensure victory, but I'm sure it will take up a lot of time for all those who try to get all the available cards by challenging the various NPCs scattered around the world of game. I also found it interesting Folio, a sort of skill tree that will allow us to obtain new techniques and improvements for the protagonists. From the first impact I thought that this mechanic, combined with the management of weapons and Matterit could prove really interesting for customize the party as best as possible and make each character more suited to our needs in combat.
If in the previous test I had a taste of what the exploration within the title will be, after having got my hands on the first hours of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH I'm really curious to find out how big the game world will be. Even though I had about three hours available, I managed to see very little, partly out of curiosity to move forward with the story and partly because I often stopped to admire the beautiful settings where I was. The presence of Chocobos it's definitely a great way to quickly move within a macro-area and, fortunately, it is There is also a Fast Travel function in case we have to complete some mission that is too far from where we are at the moment.
During the gameplay I got to meet Chadley and discover better the role that the software house has entrusted to him for this new chapter. Not only will it allow us to discover points of interest in the world more easily, but we will be able to commission it to create new, very powerful Materia, carry out very difficult combat challenges thanks to the battle simulator and even take on secondary missions and hunting missions. The feeling I had is that in this second chapter we will find ourselves faced with a more complex and multifaceted experience than what we saw in FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKEthus offering players the opportunity to approach their adventure in different ways.
Technically I haven't encountered any major problems, except for some small drops in frame rate. But in any case it is difficult to talk about the technical sector based solely on a build created specifically for a press event. However, I can tell you that, from what I have seen, the game world has been created in a truly phenomenal way and it will be really pleasant to stop and admire the many panoramic views present. The thing that intrigues me most, however, is the narrative direction, although I won't give any spoilers I can tell you that not only will they be present from the first hours new events compared to the original FINAL FANTASY VIIbut some scenes will play out differently than in the 1997 title.
Ultimately this test was a bit bittersweet for me, for the simple reason that I didn't want to detach myself from the controller so soon. FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH It looks like a really massive title, and I can't wait to discover all the surprises it has SQUARE ENIX has in store for us in this chapter. Luckily we won't have to wait much longer, as the game will be available starting starting next February 29th on PlayStation 5.
Thanks again to SQUARE ENIX for the invitation to the FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH pre-launch event in London.
