The Esplanada dos Ministérios, in the central region of Brasília, was partially closed this Wednesday (11.jan.2023) after demonstrators called for a “Mega National Demonstration for the Resumption of Power” in the federal capital and in other states. The information was confirmed by Ricardo Capelli, federal intervenor in public security in the Federal District.
The act in Brasilia is expected to start in the early afternoon of this Wednesday (Jan 11). Capelli said there will be a “massive mobilization” of the security forces that will accompany the demonstration. However, the intervenor did not inform the amount of cash will be used.
According to Capelli, the Esplanada will be closed to vehicles and barriers will be installed for searches and blockages. The decision was announced during an interview with journalists at the CIOB (Integrated Operations Center of Brasília), at the SSP-DF (Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District).
Vehicles can only go down to Alça Leste, right after the bus station. At the height of the National Library, at the beginning of the Esplanade, there will be a Military Police search, in which backpacks will be searched. It will not be allowed to enter with weapons and sharp materials.
Protesters will only be able to walk as far as Avenida Sarney (approximately a little ahead of half of the Esplanada). In the image, the red rectangle marks the limit as far as protesters can go.
