Prisons, agreement signed on prisoner work for ultra-fast networks. Agreement valid until June 2026, over 700 applications
Make up for the lack of manpower for the laying and splicing of fiber optic networks and, at the same time, offer prisoners new opportunities for reintegration into society through training and work. This is the objective of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Department for digital transformation, the penitentiary administration department of the Ministry of Justice, Infratel Italia, the ASI Caserta consortium, Anie Sit and the operators of tlc Fastweb, Fibercop, Intred, Inwit, Open Fiber, Tim, Vodafone Italiainterested in the implementation of the plans envisaged in the context of the ultra-fast and 5G networks of the Pnrr.
The new agreementWhat will be valid until 30 June 2026, follows and expands the previous agreement signed by the Ministry of Justice and the Department for digital transition in June 2022. In particular, the current protocol includes all companies operating on Pnrr projects and several penitentiary institutions are involved throughout the national territory and therefore a greater number of prisoners. In fact, over 700 applications emerged following a specific survey carried out by the Dap; they will be examined on a case-by-case basis to verify the existence of the personal and legal requirements necessary to access the project.

Agreements like these are the symbol of a new ability of the Dap to honor this task by looking to the future and to innovation A renewed impulse to implement and participate in social inclusion projects which, through the involvement of important companies and industrial groups, favor the recovery of prisoners and the reduction of recidivism, with the objective, repeatedly indicated by Minister Nordio, of multiply the opportunities for work and professional training useful for reintegration into society”.
For the CEO of Infratel Italia Pietro Piccinetti“we are giving substance to the solutions we have identified to speed up work on open construction sites to complete the country’s digitalisation work, this agreement has a double value: responding to the labor shortage affecting construction sites and contributing to the reintegration of detained people , offering them training and work” he declared, thanking “the Ministry of Justice and the Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for having involved Infratel on this protocol, which is an important piece to contribute to the full implementation of the dictate constitutional which assigns a re-educational function to punishment and to guide those who have served their sentence towards reintegration into the social fabric of the country”.
