A 14-year-old girl died and a 13-year-old boy was injured at the Tivoli Friheden amusement park in Aarhus, near Copenhagen, after the last roller coaster carriage they had boarded was detached. The director of the theme park Henrik Ragborg Olsen told TV2 broadcaster. “The rear part came off and hung under the rest of the train,” he added. Firefighters released the people trapped on the carousel after the accident. Danish police have opened an investigation to locate the caused the accident and closed the park until further notice after evacuating it.According to the Copenhagen Post, the 13-year-old taken to hospital was injured in the hand.
” We have cleared the park and are providing psychological assistance to the people who witnessed the accident. This applies to both staff and guests and family members, ” explained the park manager. The Danish police asked not to share videos or photos of the incident on social media.
The roller coaster where the fatal crash occurred, called Cobras, are 400 meters long and reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour, according to the park’s website. Today’s incident is not the first of its kind in the park. In 2008, shortly after it opened, a Cobra carriage pulled away from the front of the roller coaster, injuring four young men in the hands and arms. One of them had a concussion. On that occasion, the investigation revealed a manufacturing error.
