At least eight Brazilian capitals cancel year-end parties due to covid
At least eight regional capitals in Brazil, including Salvador and Belo Horizonte, have canceled the end of the year celebrations for fear of a rebound in the pandemic of coronavirus after the recent discovery of the omicron variant.
Brazil, one of the countries hardest hit by covid, is currently experiencing a moment of certain stability in relation to infections and deaths, which are at their lowest levels since the health crisis began.
In this context, the first regional capitals of the country in cancel the festivities have been Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Florianópolis, Joao Pessoa, Sao Luís, Campo Grande and Palmas. Eight out of 27 total.
Brazil, which accumulates more than 22 million positives and about 615,000 deaths linked to the virus, has not yet registered any cases of the omicron variant, although investigating a possible infected with that strain in the state of Sao Paulo. (Eph)
