Survey also shows that at least 100,000 companies closed down in 2020
During the pandemic, 404,000 workers in the commercial sector were unemployed. According to data from the 2020 PAC (Annual Trade Survey), released by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Wednesday (17.Aug.2022), 90% of these professionals were representatives of the retail trade.
In comparison with the same survey for 2019there was a reduction of at least 100 thousand in the number of commercial companies active in Brazil: from 1.4 million companies active in the Brazilian commercial sector to 1.3 million.
The survey shows that the year 2020 ended with 9.8 million people employed in the commercial sector, with an accumulated salary of R$ 241.6 billion. Here’s the intact (982 KB).
The net revenue (accumulated value with the deduction of taxes) of these companies in the 1st year of the pandemic was BRL 4.3 trillion, an increase of BRL 300 billion compared to 2019.
Gross revenue was R$ 4.7 million. Of the total, BRL 2.3 trillion refers to wholesale trade (aimed at intermediate consumers and resale), BRL 2.1 trillion to retailers (aimed at final consumers) and BRL 394.3 billion to vehicles, parts and motorcycles.
Retail and vehicle trades had a reduction of 1.1% and 1.2%, respectively, in 2020. However, wholesale trade had an advance of 2.3%.
In 2020, the business sector groupings that added the most to revenue were:
- hypermarkets and supermarkets (13.6%);
- wholesale of fuels and lubricants (10.1%);
- wholesale of food products, beverages and tobacco (8.5%).
The data released refer to the year 2020 and were collected by the IBGE in 2021.
