Russia’s ex-president, Dmitry Medvedev, accuses Germany of having declared a “hybrid war” on Russia. He countered a statement by Olaf Scholz.
Moscow – Ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has long been considered a moderate politician in Russia. But during the Ukraine war, Medvedev increasingly developed into a hardliner who likes to make powerful statements. On Sunday he once again criticized Germany very sharply and disparagingly.
“Germany is acting as an enemy of Russia,” Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel, accusing Germany of “hybrid warfare.” The reason for these words were statements by Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the press conference on Sunday to announce the third relief package.
Putin’s Medvedev rumbles towards Germany: “Enemy of Russia”
“Putin’s Russia has breached its contract” because supply contracts have not been honored for a long time, said Scholz. Then the Chancellor concluded: “Russia is no longer a reliable energy supplier”.
Medvedev quoted these words at the start of his post and then countered sharply. With its “unfriendly behavior”, Germany itself is to blame for the tense oil and gas situation. After all, Germany imposed “sanctions on the entire economy of Russia and its citizens” and also delivered “lethal weapons” to Ukraine.
Dmitry Medvedev: “Germany has declared a hybrid war on Russia”
“In other words, Germany has declared a hybrid war on Russia. Germany is behaving like an enemy of Russia,” concluded the ex-president and current deputy chairman of the Russian National Security Council. “And this uncle (Scholz) is surprised that the Germans encounter small problems with the gas,” he added ironically.
The Russian gas giant Gazprom has currently suspended deliveries to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. The natural gas delivery stop that began on Wednesday was initially justified by scheduled maintenance work at a compressor station, and on Friday Gazprom then announced that deliveries via the pipeline were not possible due to an oil leak in a turbine. The group did not provide any information on the duration of the delivery stop. After Western sanctions were imposed on Moscow because of the Ukraine war, Russia had repeatedly reduced its gas supplies to Europe. after one BBCreport, Russia is currently also burning large amounts of gas.
