Participation until 1:00 p.m. amounts to 28%
Until 1:00 p.m., participation in the Basque elections amounts to 28%, as reported this Sunday by the vice president of the Basque Government, Josu Erkoreka. In the previous elections, those of 2020, the estimated participation figure at 12:00 was 14% (the difference in time and methodology makes the comparison unfeasible). In the 2016 elections, the last without extraordinary circumstances, since those of 2020 were also marked by the pandemic, 15.4% of registered voters had exercised their right to vote at 12:00.
By province, Gipúzkoa is the one that, four hours after the opening of schools, registers the highest participation, with 30%, followed by Bizcaia, with 27.4% and Álava, with 25.9%. As for the three capitals, at 1:00 p.m. 25.7% of the census had voted in Bilbao, 29.5% in San Sebastián and 25.3% in Vitoria.
On this occasion, the data cannot be compared with previous elections, because a change has been made in the methodology in which the data is collected. This Sunday's participation is being processed with a new application, called HautesData, which provides the actual data by municipality, while in previous editions an estimated calculation was provided. In addition, the time slots have also been modified. The first preview used to correspond to 12:00, while this 21A, the data is taken at 1:00 p.m. The second advance participation will correspond to the data from 6:00 p.m. As if all this were not enough, the previous elections were held in the middle of the pandemic and in the summer, so there was much more voting by mail and a different influx to the polls.
