The head of the National Unity Government in Libya, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, affirmed his government’s support for United Nations efforts to stabilize the country by holding elections in accordance with fair, consensual, and enforceable laws.
Al-Dabaiba referred to the efforts made by the government with the parties related to the election file and the work completed in this regard.
This came in a meeting between Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba and the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Acting Head of Mission, Stephanie Khoury, at the Council of Ministers headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, according to local media reports.
The meeting discussed a number of political files regarding Khoury’s first movements in Libya.
Last Thursday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, stated that he respects the peaceful transfer of power, and that he supports all initiatives that seek to hold fair and transparent elections in Libya, pointing out that the decision is up to the people to choose who represents them.
He stressed the need to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in the country away from obstructionists and saboteurs.
Haftar also pointed out that he would not allow anyone to appoint himself as guardian of the Libyan people, and that he supported the unity of the country, the building of the state, and a decent life for all Libyans under the banner of freedom and democracy, under the support of the armed forces, despite all the challenges.
