A Russian journalist was killed in a drone attack in eastern Ukraine where he was conducting an investigation, the media outlet he worked for said Sunday, three days after another Russian reporter was killed near the front.
The Russian News website reported on the Telegram application that “our correspondent Nikita Tsitsagi was killed in an attack launched by Ukrainian army marches.”
It was reported that the attack occurred in the area of the Monastery of Saint Nicholas near Voglidar, a city that has been witnessing fierce battles for months.
A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said that a Ukrainian drone “deliberately hit the Russian journalist who was preparing a report in the region.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “This is the second attack on media professionals within a week, launched by the same party.”
On Thursday, a journalist on Russian state television was killed and another was injured in an attack at a Ukrainian march in Golmivsky, a Russian-controlled town near the front lines east of the Donetsk region.
The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Ukraine of “deliberately targeting” journalists.
In early June, President Vladimir Putin announced that at least “thirty” Russian journalists had been killed since the start of the Ukrainian crisis.
