On Monday, there were expectations that a heat wave would lead to temperatures rising to 45 degrees Celsius in both Greece and Turkey, while meteorologists in both countries described temperatures as unusually high for this time of the year.
The Greek Meteorological Authority said that temperatures in many areas of the country will exceed 40 degrees Celsius and in some cases reach 45 degrees, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, and in the following days.
The Greek Red Cross advised residents to stay out of the sun, close the shutters, drink plenty of fluids and eat light food.
She also asked them to reach out to friends and family members to ensure that the elderly in particular are healthy.
The authority warned against exercising outdoors. She added that children should not be left in the car during the day.
At the same time, meteorologists in Turkey warned of a heat wave sweeping the west of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 45 degrees.
Temperatures rose about 12 degrees above normal for this time of year.
Experts advised residents not to stay outdoors between 11 am and 4 pm local time (0800-1300 GMT), especially the elderly, children and those with chronic diseases.
