The Local Police of Coín (Málaga, 24,309 inhabitants) has located a 17-year-old girl raised in a forest in Switzerland without contact with society. The authorities of the Alpine country had been looking for her since her father ran away with her and her sisters and had activated an international search warrant to remove the girl from her parent. After going to a juvenile center of the Andalusian Government, she has already been repatriated to her country of origin and is under the guardianship of the Swiss Government. The young woman turns 18 at the end of the month.
The discovery was accidental. It occurred on March 18 when a patrol of agents from the Coín Local Police found a vehicle with a damaged wheel and where it seemed that people could reside. Next to him there was a man with a disheveled appearance and a girl also with very dirty clothes, as announced this Wednesday South. The police proceeded to identify them and entered their data into the police database.
Then an alert went off in the Sirene service—an acronym in English for Request for Additional Information at National Entry—which establishes cooperation between countries in the European Union. The information warned that the minor’s whereabouts were unknown. It was also explained that her situation was dangerous and that once found, the security forces of the country where she was found had to transfer her to a safe place due to the high risk of escape induced by her father.
The patrol reported it and both the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office and the Juvenile Protection Service in Malaga contacted the Swiss authorities. They informed him that the girl had grown up with her two sisters in a forest in the Swiss country, where they were raised by her father in “total disconnection” from any public administration and also away from contact with other people. They had also not seen her mother for six years.
The girl was later transferred to a child protection center in the province of Malaga, where she was treated while Spain and Switzerland carried out the bureaucratic procedures for her repatriation. Once all the steps were completed, the minor traveled to her country on May 3 accompanied by Swiss officials and with a police device to ensure that nothing happened. She has finally been placed under the guardianship of the Swiss Government.
