Two different decisions at Yamaha
The brief rain that fell on the Misano Adriatico circuit pushed the two riders of the Yamaha to make different decisions, which turned out to be decisive for the outcome of the San Marino GP. While Alex Rins chose to change bikes after the first drops of water fell during the 7th lap, Fabio Quartararo he instead preferred to stay on the track with slick tyres.
The return to 7th place
A move that paid off for the Frenchman, as the rain stopped shortly after, with the track remaining dry until the checkered flag. Starting from tenth position, ‘The Devil’ he completed a comeback up to 7th place final, which is equivalent to its best result of the season in a long race after the one obtained in Portugal: “It was very difficult, especially in the first laps when it started to rain. – explained the 2021 world champion – usually the rain doesn’t work to our advantage, but I managed to stay close to the leaders, so it was good. I liked the race. I didn’t have the sensations I expected, but the position is good. I had the other riders in front of me, so whatever they did, I followed them. At one point I was about to return to the pits for a bike change, but I saw that Most of them kept going, so I decided to stay out. Luckily the track dries very quickly here, so I think it was fantastic.”
Rins chooses the wrong card
Different speech for Rinsewho after starting from 20th place and the crashes of Acosta and Morbidelli tried his best by returning to the pits to get on the bike with wet tires. However, once the pit stop was made, no more drops of rain fell in Misano, with the Spaniard forced to return to the pit lane to change bike again, crossing the finish line 19th: “The race was a bit difficult to manage because I decided to go to the pits to change bikes, switching to wet tyres. – he commented – It had already rained for two laps, but as soon as we went out on the track again the rain stopped. So, after two laps of riding on wet tyres, I was forced to come into the pits and go back to the dry bike. After that, I had a better pace than the others, but it was difficult to overtake. Monday is an important day for the future, because we will try some new things. Let’s see if we can do a good test, so maybe we will also have some new things for the Misano race weekend #2″.
