Peskov spoke about the scandalous fight of a transgender boxer at the 2024 Olympics
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on the performance of Algerian boxer Iman Khelif, who failed a gender test, in the women’s competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. He said he did not watch the fight, but would have preferred to see the “good old” International Olympic Committee.
Peskov considered Khelif’s speech to be perverted
The Kremlin spokesman answered a question about Khalif’s fight with Italian Angela Carini at the Paris Games in a conversation with journalists. According to Peskov, the Olympic movement is falling victim to pseudo-liberal manifestations bordering on perversion.
He also said that he did not watch the fight and he has no particular desire to. Peskov noted that he would prefer to see the good old International Olympic Committee with good old ideas and a classical worldview, where Russian athletes would play an important role.
“But, unfortunately, those times are now over,” he concluded.
Khelif wins Olympics in 46 seconds
Khelif and Carini were competing in the 1/8 finals in the 66 kg weight category, the Italian boxer refused to continue the fight. After 46 seconds from the start of the fight, the Algerian athlete who had changed gender was declared the winner. The Italian threw her helmet on the floor, refused to shake her opponent’s hand, pulled her knees up and cried, speaking about the injustice.

Athletes and politicians criticized Khelif’s admission to the Games. The reason was that in 2023, the IBA boxing association suspended Khelif and another fighter from Taiwan, Lin Yuting, from competition. This happened during the World Championships, when the athletes failed a gender test. The tests showed that the boxers have XY chromosomes and elevated testosterone. At the same time, as indicated, the IBA allowed them to participate in women’s competitions in 2024, including the Olympics.
