The Ministry of Internal Affairs rejected the idea of creating an electric scooter police
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has deemed it inappropriate to create an electric scooter police force — a special unit that would monitor compliance with traffic rules by people using such transport. This is reported by RIA News.
The department cited a lack of personnel and limited budget commitments. In addition, a special unit, the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, already exists to monitor road safety, the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized.
Earlier, State Duma deputy Vladislav Davankov came forward with a corresponding initiative. It was assumed that a special inspection would fine electric scooter riders for dangerous driving, speeding, driving while intoxicated, ignoring traffic lights and road markings, as well as random parking of scooters in pedestrian areas and public places.
