Review bombing is a practice that users use when they don’t like something. This involves going to sites that allow public reviews to post negative reviews that everyone can see. In accordance with Take-Twopublisher of games such as GTAthis practice affects games quite a bit.
At a recent meeting with investors, Take-Two spoke about the danger that review bombing can be. He even went so far as to call them ‘smear campaigns.’ After all, they do manage to affect the general perception of some games, which decreases their sales.
It is very important for them to maintain good ratings on sites like Metacritic, Steam and other digital stores that allow user reviews. Good ratings attract new prospects to games, while review bombings drive away potential buyers. This contributes to higher advertising spending to reduce reputational damage.

Unfortunately for Take-Two and other companies, re-watch bombing seems to be becoming more and more common. Just this year we saw titles like Dragon’s Dogma II and Helldivers 2 fall victim to it. Although it is sometimes used for good purposesmost of the time it is only to affect certain companies.
What games is Take-Two planning next?
Right now Take-Two has the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI on the way. It is expected to arrive sometime in 2025 but does not yet have an exact release date. Rumors suggest it could be released in the fall of next year, so we still have to wait.
As for other titles from beloved franchises, they also have a Bioshock sequel on the way that doesn’t even have a release window yet, as well as Borderlands 4. Finally they are also working on a new installment of Mafia which is also still undated. Hopefully all of them will be spared the wrath of review bombing when they become available.
