Russia responded positively yesterday to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements regarding possible negotiations to end the war between the two countries.
“It is better than statements to exclude any contacts with the Russian side, with the head of state of Russia,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in Moscow yesterday.
“It is natural that talking in one tone or another about dialogue is much better than talking about the intention to fight to the last Ukrainian citizen,” Peskov added.
Zelensky, in an interview with the BBC earlier, said he could also talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin, although he had previously ruled out that possibility by decree.
In the interview, Zelensky reiterated his readiness in principle to negotiate with Russian representatives at a new peace summit.
