Maria Chiara Prodi is the new general secretary of the CGIE, the General Council of Italians in the World, an advisory body to the Government and Parliament on major issues of interest to Italians abroad, meeting in Rome until Friday at the Farnesina in the Plenary Assembly .
Bolognese and resident in Paris, Prodi, who leaves the position of deputy general secretary for Europe and North Africa now entrusted to Giuseppe Stabile, is the first woman to lead the CGIE: she replaces Michele Schiavone who recently died. The new general secretary was elected with 36 votes in favor out of 60 voters.
“The minute of silence in memory of Michele Schiavone – explains Maria Chiara Prodi to Adnkronos – was like a call to responsibility and unity for all of us, who now find ourselves with the demanding task of fully realizing the role that the law entrusts to the CGIE in the interest of our compatriots in the world”.
