The European Football Association (UEFA) imposed a two-match suspension on Scottish defender Ryan Porteous for “dangerous rough play”, following his violent intervention with Ilkay Gundogan during the 5-1 defeat against Germany last Friday in the opening match of the 2024 European Championship.
Germany was leading 2-0, when Porteous received the red card at the end of the first half, following a violent intervention with his feet on Gundogan inside the penalty area.
The referee awarded a penalty kick for Germany, and Kai Havertz took it forward, scoring the third goal.
Porteous will therefore miss Scotland’s matches against Switzerland next Wednesday and against Hungary on Sunday.
Scotland hopes to advance beyond the group stage in the finals of a major tournament for the first time.
