Even before the Peace Summit in Ukraine, promoted in Switzerland, in which the Brazil refused to sign a declaration In conjunction with other countries, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Iryna Borovets, demanded that the Brazilian government play a greater role in negotiations with Russia.
“Considering Brazil’s international stance and the country’s global position, it could be more involved in peace negotiations,” the vice-chancellor told CNN Brasil, during a visit.
The Ukrainian official also said he was “grateful” to an attempt by Brazil and China to negotiate a resolution to the war at the end of May. However, Borovets did not fail to criticize the proposal:
“What we did not see in the six points of Brazil and China’s declaration is the mention of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The countries advocate an international conference that is recognized by both Ukraine and Russia “with equal participation of all parties, as well as a fair discussion of all peace plans”, as highlighted in the agreement.
Borovets also said that the Ukrainian government hopes for a meeting between Lula and President Volodymyr Zelenski, which would be essential for the countries’ bilateral relationship.
