The dictator of Russia, Vladimir Putin, met this Thursday (6) with the former Brazilian president and head of the New BRICS Development Bank, Dilma Rousseff, in Saint Petersburg, and congratulated her on the “progress” made by the institution on the last year.
“I must emphasize that, in the last year, the bank has managed to do many things under his leadership, made considerable profits, net profits and, in general, is standing, working in an increasingly organized and successful way”, declared the leader Russian.
Both met at Constantine Palace, the Kremlin leader’s country residence in his hometown, where hours earlier he had met with Bolivian President Luis Arce.
“I ask you to convey my best wishes to the current president of Brazil, Mr. Lula, and we will talk by phone soon to discuss bilateral relations,” Putin asked.
The Russian president added that he is waiting for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the next Brics summit in the city of Kazan, which will be held on October 22nd and 22nd.
The Russian president’s international policy advisor, Yuri Ushakov, said before the meeting that Putin and Dilma Rousseff would discuss the financing strategy for important projects on Russian territory through this credit institution.
Last year, the head of the BRICS bank announced the temporary halt of its operations in Russia, as “the existence of an international financial system cannot be denied” in the context of Western sanctions.
The decision to create a bank within the structure of the BRICS countries was taken in 2013, during the summit in Durban, South Africa, and a year later this decision was sealed in Brazil with the signing of the corresponding agreement. The New Brics Development Bank officially began operating in July 2015. (With EFE Agency)
