A traffic argument in the Som Oms industrial estate in Palma de Mallorca ended on April 19 with a frantic chase from one car to another, in which the aggressor’s vehicle managed to drive the attacked car off the MA-19 highway and He ended up hitting him on purpose and then left the vehicle’s occupants screaming and terrified. The victim, who was driving a rental car and shouted at the other driver several times in English, recorded part of the scene and handed the images to the Civil Guard. The alleged aggressor, of Spanish nationality, is being investigated for reckless driving and intentional damage. After hitting the other vehicle with his car, he slapped the driver of the other car and left the scene.
“Traffic discussions are frequent, but not like these,” explains a spokesperson for the Balearic Civil Guard. In the recording, you can hear how the woman who was traveling as co-pilot in the pursued vehicle screamed in fear. Once she collided with them sideways and took them off the road, the driver reproached the driver in English: “What are you doing?”
The complainant took the images to the Civil Guard and the cameras of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) corroborated that the vehicle suffered a chase during which the driver under investigation tried to block the passage on the MA-19 highway. During the chase, the complainant car tried to mislead the driver who was following them by reversing onto a merging road. The driver of the reported vehicle followed him along that same junction, also reversing, until he was positioned parallel to him, hit him, and took him off the road. The crash caused numerous material damage to both vehicles, as reported this Tuesday by the Civil Guard.
The DGT cameras captured two moments: the chase along the highway and the moment in which both took the merging road in reverse, which includes the crash. The images of the complainant recorded the moment in which he reversed towards them and the impact.
Reckless driving can be punished with prison sentences ranging from six months to two years, plus the withdrawal of the license from one to six years. The crime of damage is usually punished, as a general rule, with fines ranging from six to 24 months, depending on the economic condition of the victim and the amount of damage.
