The US Army received a medical vehicle on the AMPV chassis to replace the M113
The US Army continues to receive new vehicles on the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) chassis, which will replace the M113 armored personnel carriers (APCs) used during the Vietnam War. About the advantages of medical vehicles based on AMPV writes Army Recognition.
It is noted that in early May, new AMPVs were received by medics of the combat group of the 1st Armored Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division of the US Army. “The biggest advantage of the AMPV is the space it allows medics to move around patients,” said Medical Platoon Sergeant Benjamin Proctor.
The AMPV’s internal volume is 78 percent greater than that of the M113. The vehicle can accommodate four patients on stretchers. Also, armored vehicles on the AMPV chassis are superior to the M113 in terms of protection and mobility. The brigade’s medics use the M1284 Medical Evacuation Vehicle (MEV) and the M1285 Medical Treatment Vehicle (MTV).

In March, it became known that BAE Systems handed over to the US Army the first prototype of the NEMO self-propelled mortar on the AMPV chassis. The mortar’s rate of fire is ten rounds per minute, and the firing range of conventional ammunition is ten kilometers.
