Despite the excellent reception given to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5, some fans have found themselves dissatisfied for reasons that have nothing to do with the playability or technical implementation of the title. The current controversy concerns the changing of the clothing of Tifa, a key character in the game, during a flashback sequence. In the previous chapter, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Tifa appears in a scene in which he is still fifteen years old with a much more revealing outfit than what is shown in the same sequence in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, just released. In Rebirth, his outfit has been updated and he now wears a sporty crop top, which is much less provocative than the previous version.
They patched FF7 Remake to slightly change the detail of Tifa's character model in the Nibelheim flashback to match Rebirth, and some are reacting as you'd expect… (before/after/reaction) pic.twitter.com/Y0HiFF7GxJ

In recent days, Final Fantasy VII Remake, a 2020 game, has also been updated to reflect the same choice. A part of the fanbase did not hesitate to express their disappointment, while others justified the choice as a necessary adjustment, remembering that Tifa is 15 years old in the flashback in question. This episode once again raised questions regarding the representation of female characters in video games and the line between faithfulness to the original and adaptation to modern times.
