Tree falls on cars and walls caused deaths in the cities of São Paulo, Osasco, Suzano, Santo André and Limeira
Six people died in São Paulo as a result of heavy rain and gusts of wind that hit the State on Friday (3.Nov.2023). The wind speed, according to the State Civil Defense, reached 151 kilometers per hour (km/h) in Santos. In the capital of São Paulo, gusts reached 103.7 km/h, a record for the last 5 years.
In total, 4 people died due to falling trees, one in Osasco and one in Suzano, cities in Greater São Paulo; and two in the east zone of the capital of São Paulo. There were also deaths in Limeira, due to the collapse of a wall, and in Santo André, due to the collapse of a building wall.
Civil Defense and the Fire Department recorded more than 2,000 calls for incidents in 40 municipalities in the State, the majority due to falling trees.

São Paulo City Hall reported that the work of teams on the streets was reinforced to mitigate the impacts caused by the storm. Teams from the sub-prefectures, Civil Defense and agents from the Traffic Engineering Company spent the night on the streets to recover affected areas and restore regularity.
Airport
At Congonhas Airport, according to information from the concessionaire Aena, an executive jet, model Cessna Citation, which was coming from Estrela D’Oeste, had problems with the braking system during landing in the late afternoon of Friday (3.Nov).
There were no injuries, but landings and takeoffs on the main runway were affected for about an hour. 12 flights were canceled and 14 were switched to other airports.
Due to intense rain, there was a power outage in the passenger terminal. The generators were activated by the administration and it was possible to maintain regular operations. Power was restored at 8:48 p.m.
Forecast
This Saturday (Nov 4), the capital of São Paulo dawned with lots of clouds, but no rain was predicted. According to the city hall’s Climate Emergency Management Center, the cold front that caused the storms has already moved away to the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
During the early hours of the morning, São Paulo recorded isolated showers in the eastern part of the city. Cloud cover decreases throughout the day and the sun will appear. The maximum can reach 25°C, with the lowest air humidity levels of around 40%.
For the State, the forecast, according to Civil Defense, is also sun between clouds. “There are no conditions for heavy rain, only drizzle in parts of the eastern belt”, says the organ’s note.
