It is no secret that, for several years, the awards Oscar have declined in popularity. With each new edition, the number of viewers decreases. Although various attempts have been made to remedy this, so that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences could, at last, stream their annual ceremony on a streaming platform.
According to a report by Variety, Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and Janet Yang, president of this organization, they would be considering broadcasting the next edition of the Oscars through a streaming platform. The reason for this change of opinion is because the recent broadcast of the Emmys could also be enjoyed through Peacock, Universal’s platform.
Although at the moment there is no clear data on the number of people who saw the Emmys through Peacock, the report has indicated that the reception of this has been favorable. Similarly, it has been mentioned that the results of this deliberation would be announced until March 2023.
However, this too has started to worry some people. Although at the moment there is nothing official, it has been pointed out that the intention to broadcast the Oscars through Netflix or Prime Video, could change the way these platforms are considered for nominations.
Before the pandemic, all films that could be nominated for an Oscar needed to be shown in a theater, and that includes original streaming productions, such as Roma at the time. Although with the closure of cinemas in 2020 and 2021 this changed, A series of questions have arisen related to the treatment that these platforms could have in the future.
For the meantime, we will have to wait until March 2023 to have more information. On related topics, Orlando Bloom joins the Gran Turismo movie. Similarly, there will be a film of the trial of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.
Editor’s note:
Although the possibility is not ruled out that Netflix, Apple and Amazon productions have yet to reach theaters, it is also possible that this will no longer be the case in the future. We can only wait and see how this case develops.
