But the story did not stop with the deportation from the nuclear submarine, as this officer lost his job and entered into a legal dispute with the British Ministry of Defense, which he sued, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail” Thursday.
In the lawsuit, he says he suffers discrimination and the loss of his security clearance.
The story of First Lieutenant Antonio Jardim began when he informed his commanders in the British Navy that he opposed even Britain’s use of nuclear deterrence, due to his Christian beliefs, days after he was assigned to take up a mission on the submarine “HMS Vanguard” armed with “Trident” missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
The court heard that the officer’s fellow sailors called him “the trigger” because of his aversion to weapons and his reluctance to pull the trigger.
He said that, afterwards, he lost his security clearance, was denied boarding the nuclear submarine, and was forced to spend a year in Portsmouth Military Harbor.
Now, the officer who was prompted by these circumstances to resign from military service believes that he was the victim of “religious discrimination”.
The officer joined the British Navy in 2019 as a weapons engineer, and in January 2020 was assigned to the aforementioned nuclear submarine.
And just 13 days after his appointment there, he told his British naval commanders that he struggled with personal involvement in the operational proliferation of nuclear weapons.
