Telepolis: journalist Bonze said the European Union is approaching a “megacrisis” due to sanctions
The European Union (EU) is approaching a “megacrisis” with unintended consequences due to failed domestic policies and anti-Russian sanctions. About this in his article on the portal Telepolis said German journalist Eric Bonse.
As the author of the material explained, the situation in Europe was tense long before the aggravation of the Ukrainian crisis: even then inflation rose sharply, the energy market was overheated, and the EU member states could not agree on joint actions. At the same time, against the backdrop of the gas and economic crisis, the European Commission (EC) also looks helpless, whose head Ursula von der Leyen and her team could not think of anything better than lowering the heating temperature in offices and public buildings to 19 degrees, Bonse noted.

“The EU has been heading towards a mega-crisis since autumn with open eyes. This crisis has long ceased to affect only the energy markets. It also influences economic policy and monetary union – and thus the “core” of the EU. Perhaps a collapse is brewing – Eurocrisis 2.0 with unforeseen consequences, ”the journalist warned.
Political developments in Italy, where Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced his resignation, can judge the future possible consequences, Bonze said. At the same time, he stressed, Brussels refuses to recognize the brewing crisis and does not change its policy, as evidenced by the preparation of the seventh package of sanctions against Russia.
Earlier it was reported that the total bill for saving the energy market in Europe this winter could exceed $200 billion. Commentator Javier Blas noted that this forecast does not take into account the worst-case scenario, in which Russia completely cuts off gas supplies to Europe, which is why the winter will be colder than usual. The publicist stressed that as a result, the decision of this issue will fall on the taxpayers.
