After a leaked program sketch previously made it clear that 3for12 was on the verge of disappearing, there was already a lot of grumbling on social media. The bomb only really exploded when the VPRO program confirmed on its website that it will probably no longer be possible to listen to the music show every day in 2023. The brand will, however, continue to exist. The Board of Directors has meanwhile agreed, although the VPRO has lodged an objection. The NPO indicates that it is still in talks.
In any case, the plans are causing a lot of consternation among music lovers and artists. They are concerned about this development, because 3for12 was the basis of many careers. Think of Kenstington, S10, De Staat and Merol. They all found their way to the general public through the radio program. The fear is that with the disappearance of 3for12 from the daily programming and, for example, continuing as an online platform, this path is blocked.
This site previously spoke extensively with station manager Menno de Boer about the new direction he wants to take with 3FM. The flow of artists was also discussed there. ,,3FM traditionally has an important function in bringing new artists and bands. We certainly want to continue to do that. I even think we’re going to do that a little better, because the throughput will run better. A starting band like Kuzko now, that starts late at night and slowly but surely proves itself. Then more songs come out and that seeps into the day’s programming. It is extremely important that this happens in a beautiful organic way. Also for such a band, but also for the musical landscape.”
