Culiacán, Sinaloa.- In Sinaloa 2.9 million inhabitants live the ravages of the drought, this represents 97 percent of the population, while 87 percent of the state surface has some degree of drought, in addition to the fact that the dams are around 13% of their capacity, informed the deputy Cinthia Valenzuela Langarica.
The legislator explained that in order to be a food-producing state, desertification and drought should be priority issues on our agricultural agenda and should even be considered in the State Development Plan 2022-2027, however, desertification is not mentioned anymore than drought only 3 Lines of Action are dedicated to it.
“It will do us no good to have the largest hydro-agricultural infrastructure in the country, with 11 dams in operation and 2 more under construction, and to have the largest volume of water concessioned by CONAGUA, of which 94% is used for agricultural activities, 5 % to public supply and 1% to industry, if we do not have water in the dams, nor do we have a water policy to take care of it “
Valenzuela Langarica summoned the Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock, to expose the “Cloud Bombing Program” to the Agricultural Affairs Commission. In addition, he invited the Secretary of Well-being and Sustainable Development to share with us the “Action Plan” to mitigate the drought problems suffered by 2.9 million Sinaloans, who live in the 16 municipalities considered to have some degree of drought.
By municipality, the intensity of the drought is as follows: abnormally dry: the municipalities of Concordia and Rosario. Moderate drought: Choix, El Fuerte, Ahome, Sinaloa, Mazatlán and Escuinapa.
