Entrepreneurial organizations call on everyone to adhere to the basic rules again to limit the increasing number of corona infections. “Working from home with complaints and good ventilation: it is all important again now that the number of corona infections in the Netherlands is increasing and the holiday period has yet to start,” say VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland.
The business community, which is already struggling with staff shortages, is very concerned about staff loss as the number of corona infections is increasing rapidly. To prevent a lockdown in the autumn, they therefore call on their supporters to comply with the basic rules now.
The business organizations point out to their supporters the importance of washing hands, disinfecting, good ventilation, working from home in the event of complaints and, for example, self-testing. ‘This may sound exaggerated, but the more we already keep the infections under control, the less the chance of a further rising reproduction number and possible new restrictions’, write chairmen Ingrid Thijssen (VNO-NCW) and Jacco Vonhof (SME). – Netherlands) today in a joint letter† ‘Certainly now that the cabinet has clearly stated that there will be no compensatory measures for short-term interventions in business operations, this is more important than ever.’
vaccinate
They also advise entrepreneurs – also in view of the shortage of personnel – to enter into discussions with their employees about vaccination. ‘Due to a high vaccination rate, fewer people get sick and the virus spreads less quickly. A high vaccination coverage has also been proven to help reduce absenteeism. Something that is important in this time of major staff shortages, and certainly if Covid-19 strikes again next autumn,” they write in the letter.
Sector plans
In the same letter, the business community calls on the cabinet to make it crystal clear which scenarios there are for a new corona wave and which criteria apply. With, among other things, the own sector plans that many (but not all) sectors have already made, companies are doing what they can to keep the virus under control, say Thijssen and Vonhof. “It can never be the case that corona only becomes a risk for entrepreneurs and they pay the price if the virus flares up again and government efforts are too late.”
Thijssen and Vonhof also ask the cabinet to give entrepreneurs a voice in the new Social Impact Team. This should ensure better coordination of possible corona measures with neighboring countries and more timely consultation with the business community if the corona situation should escalate again.
