Aston Martin is not reaping great results, confirming the doubts we had had since its presentation. The double-bottomed AMR22 project has already been rejected and before the summer we will see the debut of a version B of the machine that is being studied in the wind tunnel.
Aston Martin AMR22: here are the gills for cooling the Mercedes power unit

While not changing the chassis, it is very likely that the car of the Silverstone team will be converted from high bellies to sloping sides in search of the Coanda effect, following more the concepts of Mercedes and Red Bull and abandoning the aerodynamic trend that was followed. successfully at Ferrari.
The “verdona” for now does not meet the expectations of the drivers (Lance Stroll, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Hulkenberg called to replace the German owner hit by COVID), but in the Sakhir pits it showed some peculiarities: to ours Giorgio Piola the Brembo caliper which was mounted vertically and overhanging the front axle did not escape.
It should be remembered that this year the Italian multinational supplies with calipers for all F1 teams with the exception of McLaren which has focused on the English AP which is, however, a subsidiary that is part of the Bergamo group, although it maintains its own design autonomy. and constructive.
Having made this necessary premise, it is interesting to try to understand why on the AMR22 the gripper was placed cantilevered: according to rumors, with the obligation to have the baskets closed by regulation, it would be easier to bring the cooling sockets, given that heat dissipation must take place on the same side of the rim as the air intake, as the wheel is faired on the outside by the rim covers.
This is a rare image without the wheel cover, because the teams asked Brembo to customize their system, so there is no caliper that is the same as the other: in the shot you can see what the commitment was in using the nickel-plated aluminum alloy machined from solid to try to contain the weight, taking into account that, with the transition to 18-inch tires, the discs have also been increased up to 328 mm in diameter, with a thickness of 32 mm and holes of at least 3 mm which allow about 1,100 radial openings.
The Aston Martin caliper highlights the oval shape and the finned parts that allow good heat dispersion inside the basket. It is probable that in the evolution of the AMR22 the calipers could be one of the elements that will undergo a different position, going in the direction pursued by the other teams …
