He 70% of Spanish consumers prefer summer time, compared to the 23% who would opt for the winter one, which is the one defended by doctors and experts in the supposed case that Spain maintained a single schedule all year round, according to a survey by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU).
This weekend, Spaniards will have to adjust their clocks again to leave daylight saving time behind and adopt winter time, which is the most supported by scientists, doctors and experts. This change involves setting the clocks back one hour, with the aim of saving energy and making better use of natural light.
“In the hypothetical case that time changes were eliminated, and it was necessary to choose a single schedule for the entire year, Which one do you think Spain should adopt?” asks the OCU in its survey.
70% want the time that “dusks and dawns later”, that is, summer, while 23% would opt for the winter oneso that only one in four respondents would be in favor of adopting it.
In this sense, 51% of consumers prefer that Spain continue in the current time zone (UTC+1) versus 35% who want to change to the UTC+0 zone which is what the Canary Islands currently have.
But this preference is not the same in all parts of Spain, since among Galicia and Almeria There are many kilometers and a lot of difference in solar time, so the place of residence plays a fundamental role in the preferences of the interviewees regarding the time zone they should adopt.
In Catalonia (60%) and Basque Country (53%) is where a higher percentage of consumers are in favor of the current time zone, compared to Galicia and Andalusia, where only one in four respondents are.
Furthermore, the OCU has asked about the traditions that citizens have about their schedules, so that half of working Spaniards start at 8:00 a.m. or before: almost one in four enters their workplace between eight and nine in the morning.
16% come in from nine to ten in the morning, while one in 10 workers says they have very different working hours during the week.
